In short
BTnet Express is a version of BT's BTnet dedicated internet service delivered using easier-to-install cabling options. BT's help pages say it has a typical standard lead time of 35-40 working days, compared with up to 70 working days for BTnet depending on survey. Availability, speeds and terms are confirmed at quote.

What BTnet Express is
BTnet is BT's dedicated internet access service. Most BTnet orders need a new fibre access line built to your premises, and BT is careful not to quote standard lead times for them, because the work depends on the route, the building and any permissions needed.
BTnet Express is the exception BT names. BT's BTnet help pages describe Express services as ones delivered using easy-to-install cabling options, which is why they carry a typical standard lead time of 35 to 40 working days. BT's Modular Solutions BTnet schedule also covers BTnet and BTnet Express in a single document, so the core service terms there are written for both.
BT does not list Express as a separate plan on its main BTnet product page, and it does not publish a full specification of Express for every site, so we do not quote speed limits or a fixed list of differences. Whether Express is offered at your address, which speeds and options come with it, and what it costs are all confirmed at quote.
Whichever version you take, the reasons to choose BTnet are the same: a connection that is yours alone rather than shared with neighbours, the same speed for uploads as downloads, fixed IPv4 addresses, and BT's service levels for availability, delivery and latency. BTnet Express and BTnet lead times compared
| BTnet Express | BTnet | |
|---|---|---|
| How BT describes delivery | Easy-to-install cabling options | Dedicated access line, built to suit the site |
| Lead time BT gives | Typically 35-40 working days | Up to 70 working days, depending on survey |
| Standard lead time? | Yes, a typical one | No; BT gives a prediction, then a date after survey |
| Site survey | First step of every order | First step of every order |
| Availability, speeds and options | Confirmed at quote | Confirmed at quote |
For standard BTnet, BT gives an up-front prediction based on average installation times in your area and a desktop survey that puts your site into a delivery category. After the site survey, BT sets a Customer Committed Date, which is covered by BT's on-time delivery service level. Read more in how long a BTnet installation takes.
These are BT's typical figures, not promises from us. Whatever the version, lead times depend on survey results and on things outside anyone's control at quote stage.

What can still affect timing
A shorter typical lead time does not remove the practical steps of any installation. These can still add time:
- Survey findings. The survey confirms the route into the building and where equipment goes. Unexpected issues change plans. See site surveys.
- Permissions. If you rent, your landlord may need to sign a wayleave agreement before work can start on their property.
- Extra engineering. If more work is needed to reach your site, excess construction charges may apply and dates can move.
- Site readiness. Space, power, cable routes and access for engineers are your side of the job. See preparing your site.
- Delays on the customer side. BT's terms say that if you cause unreasonable delay, for example by not giving site access when asked, charges can start from the planned date.
Installations tend to move more smoothly when the customer has the landlord, the site contact and the comms room sorted before the order goes in. We can help you get those ready.
Who BTnet Express suits
- Businesses moving office that need dedicated internet ready for moving day; see moving premises
- New sites and branches with an opening date to hit
- Organisations replacing a connection that is ending or no longer coping
- Anyone who values a predictable timescale, where Express is available at the address
When standard BTnet may be the better fit
Express is about the delivery method, so it is worth checking that the line it delivers matches your needs. If you need high speeds, plenty of headroom to flex your bandwidth, a particular bearer, or a resilient design with a second line, standard BTnet may be the right order even if it takes longer. We compare the options for your address when we quote, so you can weigh time against what you get.
Is BTnet Express the right fit for you?
We will check it against your systems and requirements and recommend the right option.
How to get your BTnet installed sooner
- Start early. Ask for a quote as soon as you know the address, before contracts on the new premises are signed if you can.
- Give us the full address and postcode, the floor and the room where the line should land.
- Speak to your landlord now about access and a wayleave, and get the right contact details.
- Name a site contact who can let engineers in during business hours.
- Prepare the space: a safe place for the equipment, power, and a cable route into the building.
- Order the right line first time: choose a bearer with growth in mind so you do not need changes soon after.
Our step-by-step BTnet installation process explains each stage, and our availability page explains how your address is checked.

Frequently asked questions
How long does BTnet Express take to install?
BT's help pages give a typical standard lead time of 35-40 working days for BTnet Express, because it uses easy-to-install cabling options. Your actual date is confirmed after survey.
What is the difference between BTnet and BTnet Express?
Both are BT's dedicated internet service under the same BT schedule. Express is delivered using easier-to-install cabling, so BT gives it a typical lead time; standard BTnet can take up to 70 working days, depending on survey.
Is BTnet Express available everywhere?
Not necessarily. BT does not list Express as a separate plan on its main BTnet product page, and availability depends on the address, so we check it, alongside standard BTnet, when you ask for a quote.
Does BTnet Express need a site survey?
Every BTnet installation is subject to site survey, and BT treats the survey as the first step of an order. The survey confirms the route in and where equipment goes.
What speeds does BTnet Express offer?
We confirm the speeds and options available with Express for your address at quote, rather than quoting general limits that may not apply to your site.
